Frank Lampard's team completed the signing of Germany international Kai Havertz on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has made the move to Stamford Bridge from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee that will rise to a maximum of £70million as Chelsea’s summer spending moved beyond an eye-watering £200million.

“I am very happy and proud to be here,” Havertz told the club’s website.

“For me it is a dream come true to play in a big club like Chelsea and I can’t wait to meet all the players and the trainers. Yeah, I am very happy to be here!”

Leverkusen gave Havertz permission to meet with Chelsea on Friday, with Germany’s team bosses also allowing him to leave the national team camp.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has underpinned a hugely-impressive transfer window for the Blues, with manager Lampard backed to launch a new Stamford Bridge era.

Prolific Germany striker Timo Werner, Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech and Leicester’s England left-back Ben Chilwell have all arrived in west London in big-money deals.

France Under-21 defender Malang Sarr has huge promise having signed on a free transfer but will head out on loan, while Brazil stalwart Thiago Silva has arrived from Paris St Germain.

The Blues have battled past their transfer ban and losing talisman Eden Hazard to Real Madrid last summer, with new boss Lampard impressing in a challenging first year at the helm.

The former England and Chelsea midfielder secured secured a fourth-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification in his maiden managerial campaign, and has now received significant backing for his Stamford Bridge squad overhaul.

Brighton have also tweaked their squad but in a far more low key manner than Chelsea. Dutch international defender Joel Veltman joined from Ajax while the return of Ben White following his loan spell at Leeds adds quality to the defence.

Albion also agreed a new five-year deal with their skipper Lewis Dunk and still hope to add a striker and left back to their ranks before the close of the transfer window.

Graham Potter's men have been linked with Uruguay international striker Darwin Nunez and Stuttgart's front runner Nicolas Gonzalez. Liverpool's Rhian Brewster is also on their wanted list while Brentford left back Rico Henry remains of interest.
