Dani Bowman's goal of the season can still inspire Brighton at Everton

Last season, against this Sunday's WSL opponents Everton, Hope Powell's team were on a bad run of form and were 3-1 down.

It was a desperately tough period and Brighton were struggling to adapt to the highest tier of football in the re-vamped Women's Super League.

Bowman however, wasn't prepared to give-up and when the ball dropped to her on the edge of the penalty box, the former England international lashed home an unstoppable shot that inspired Albion to fightback and claim an unlikely draw. Her strike was so good, it won goal of the season.

It was a moment of skill and desire that Brighton will need if they are to record their first win of this campaign at Everton this Sunday.

"I just had a strike," Bowman explained. "It was one of the best goals of my career really. At the time we had been on a few tough runs.

"We were struggling for goals. For us, it was the first goal we had scored for a while and it meant even more that we did together.

"We came away with point from 3-1 down and I think that was a little bit of a u-turn for us last season. We stepped on from there and it was a turning point."

Brighton have two points from the opening four matches in the WSL, while Everton are fifth in the table with six points.

Bowman arrived at Albion in the summer of 2017 after leaving Notts County, having begun her career with Arsenal. She moved to London rivals Chelsea in 2007 and spent seven years playing for the WSL1 club.

She was also an England international and played under current Brighton manager Powell. Bowman made a big impact in her first season at Albion, winning the club's women's player of the year in 2017/18.

The defensive midfielder believes Albion are more than capable of competing well in this division and targets three point at Everton after a disappointing home loss against West Ham last time out in the league.

But how about another goal of the season this Sunday? “That will be nice," she added. "But I don't know if I am playing yet! We will have to wait and see. As long as we come away with something I think that will be our goal.

"The performance level we want to improve on from the West Ham game. We want to improve upon our performance from that because we know that we fell short in certain areas. We need to be better at Everton. We need to be because they are on a good run.”
