Jordan Ayew's 70th minute strike was enough to give the Eagles all three points but Brighton saw most of the ball and missed a number of good opportunities throughout.

Solly March, who missed a golden opportunity towards the end of the first half after a superb Seagulls counter attack, said: "I should have taken it [first-half chance]. It came off the heel a bit but maybe if I was a bit more composed it would have been in the back of the net.

"We had a few chances. Neal blocked one on the line from Dunky's header.

"For the fans, and us, it's a tough one to take against Palace. We've got to try and move on quickly. On another day, we take our chances and win the game.

"[If not for] blocks on the line from our own players and a bit more composure from someone, we win the game comfortably.

"It just wasn't our day today but we've got to keep fighting. We've got games to come so we'll pick ourselves up and go again next week."

With games to come against Wolves, Arsenal and Leicester next month, and meetings with Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City to follow in April, 15th-placed Albion are set for a tough battle to avoid the drop.

However, March said Brighton have the quality to cause problems and pick up vital points in the games against teams in the top half.

"We're training hard and we're playing well at times," he said. "A bit of luck and composure and we'd score goals and win games.

"Maybe it's a nice thing [to have tough games coming up]. They won't come in and camp behind and try to counter us. We might have some more space and chances. Hopefully it will play into our hands.

"Today they [Palace] sat back a lot and it was hard to break them down. They countered on us and got the goal.

"We beat Arsenal away so we definitely can at home."
