Some Brighton fans were left perplexed by the club’s decision to screen the Seagulls game against Tottenham at the Amex Stadium.

Football fans still aren’t allowed to attend fixtures due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, despite large open-air stadiums appearing ideal for the implementation of social distancing.

Indeed, Brighton fans were welcomed to the Amex for a pre-season friendly with Chelsea back in August, with 2,500 supporters allowed to watch their side in the flesh for the first time since March.

That has lead Brighton to make the decision to screen the club’s trip to London to face Jose Mourinho’s side in the Amex’s Mayo Wynne Baxter Suite for the price of £20 per head or six for £100.

But some Seagulls supporters were left stunned at the announcement – whilst others could see the logic behind the decision…

@bevmitchell2801: “Rather misleading to show a pic of one of the big pitch-side screens, when the match is actually going to be screened in one of the function rooms.”

@bhafcsahil: “So we can go to the stadium to watch the game on TV, but we can't go to the stadium to see the game in real life.”

@AdamdeSilver: “I can understand how people would think this is a nonsense but it’s another good step to letting people in for the real thing, just like the friendly against Chelsea. It should show the government it can be done. I’m proud of our club.”

@5impinAintEasy: “Agreed. There’s a bigger point being made here. I hope it’s a success. Should act as a stepping stone to getting fans back in the Amex on match day.”

@dunkj11: “So they can have people in to watch on TV but not when the players are actually there?”

@oscarbe62310298: “We can watch on a big screen but can’t attend games? #LetFansIn”

@YolandeSoen: “Are they desperate for money!? Why they don't give it free for season ticket holders?”
