The Seagulls host the champions in tomorrow’s early kick-off, with Graham Potter’s men looking to build on last weekend’s dramatic 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

For Lallana, it will be a first opportunity to line up against the side who he spent six years with prior to completing a free transfer to the south coast over the summer – provided he can overcome the groin complaint that he sustained last weekend’s victory.

The 32-year-old was a firm favourite of Klopp’s during his time at Anfield, and the German boss has been quick to pay tribute to the England international in the build-up to Saturday’s clash.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, he said: "We still miss him, but it's not easy to because everyone is still in contact with him. Not this week so much!

"A friend for life for all of us.

"I don't know if he can play, he hasn't told anyone [after his groin injury].

"I know the friendship is aside [during the game]."

During his six years on Merseyside, Lallana helped the Reds to Champions League glory and a first league title in three decades.

Since joining Brighton, he has enjoyed a decent run of first team action, featuring in all nine Premier League matches so far and starting in the Seagulls’ last five outings.

The midfielder picked up his first assist for his new club last weekend, providing the crucial pass for Danny Welbeck’s opener.
