Maupay produced an excellent and fully committed display on his return to the starting line-up having been dropped for the previous two matches against West Ham and Watford.

Maupay's well-taken first half header cancelled out Edna Stevens' goal for Sheffield United. It was his eighth of the season but his first Premier League goal since Crystal Palace on December 16.

"I think for us it's a massive point, it's been a really tough game," said the Frenchman, who signed for Brighton for £16m from Brentford last summer.

"It's always a tough place to come. They played a really good game and most of the game we had to defend, but it's a game we would have lost a few weeks ago, so we're quite happy with this point and we need to build on this for the end of the season."

Maupay, 24, has impressed in his first campaign in the Premier League but admits the lack of recent goal was getting to him. Today he partnered Glenn Murray up front and it is only the second time this season the duo have started together.

"I'm happy with my goal. Obviously, I've been struggling a bit in the last few weeks. I wasn't happy at all with myself, but I kept working hard and the manager always supported me even when I was struggling. So I'm happy to have helped the team get a point and hopefully more goals will come.

"We didn't have that much commitment or desire to defend [a few weeks ago], but we know we are in a real battle, so we need to play every game like it's the last one of the season, and that's what we've done."
