Rob Green bowled over by 'incredible achievement' from Brighton player

The 23-year-old has established himself as Albion’s number one between the sticks in the second half of the season after Mat Ryan was sent out on loan to Arsenal.

Since then, Sanchez has conceded just 17 goals in 18 Premier League matches, keeping seven clean sheets in the process.

As a reward for his fine run of form, the keeper has been rewarded with his first senior international call-up ahead for Spain’s current run of World Cup qualifiers against Greece, Georgia, and Kosovo – and Green believes that his inclusion is merited.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Football Show, he said: “He’s been called up this week into the Spain national squad – it’s an incredible achievement for a young goalkeeper who was on loan at Rochdale last season.

"They’ve made a decision to go with him this season, Brighton and it’s a brave one for such a young guy in such a pivotal role.

"One of the main reasons that Potter’s gone with him is his ability to command his area. He loves to come for crosses. He’s got the fourth-highest amount of crosses claimed in the Premier League, and that’s despite having played significantly less than the other goalkeepers around him.

"Mat Ryan lost his place in this Brighton team because Sanchez is that much more commanding, because he loves to come for crosses.

"It’s a fantastic attribute to have within a team. It’s something that defenders love, if he can help them out, then brilliant, please do so.”
