Walker-Peters, 22, is expected to depart Spurs on loan before Friday's January transfer deadline.

The Saints are set to announce the loan signing until the end of the season but it is believed Southampton will not have the option to sign Walker-Peters permanently in the summer.

Tottenham value the player, who advanced through their academy system, at around £15m. The club were keen to seal a permanent transfer but will now settle for a loan deal and then re-assess the situation in the summer.

Walker-Peters, who signed a five-year contract with Spurs in December 2018, is keen to speak to both Palace and Saints before making his decision.

Brighton were interested in the player who has made nine England under-21 international appearances and previously helped England under-20s triumph at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Walker-Peters can also play at right-wing back or midfield.

Martin Montoya is Brighton's regular right back but it is thought head coach Graham Potter is keen to add competition in that area.

Ezequiel Schelotto, 30, has featured little since his return from a serious knee injury, while Albion's utility player Steven Alzate has also filled in at right back this campaign.
