Brighton played some decent football in the first half and deservedly went ahead through Jake Livermore's own goal.

They missed other chances to extend their lead but newly-promoted West Brom fought back for a point and levelled late on through Karlan Grant.

"We had some good chances in the game and we needed to take more of them," said Lamptey, whose cross led to Livermore's embarrassing own goal.

"West Brom are a good team and they showed that in the second half when they scored but overall it was disappointing.

"We pushed quite hard in the first half and we might have got another goal but you have to look at the positives and move on to the next game.

"We played some attractive football and on another day we get the goals we deserve and win by two or three goals."

Lamptey has been excellent for Albion so far this season and was up against another of England's most promising players Grady Diangana who was on the left flank for the Baggies.

Diangana, 22, joined West Brom at the start of the season from West Ham following a successful loan at the Hawthorns.

It was an intriguing tussle between the two and Lamptey once again was one of Brighton's brighter sparks while Diangana was substituted on 64 minutes.

Lamptey did however finish the match in an unfamiliar midfield role as Graham Potter's men tried to regain control against Slaven Bilic's team

"I don't mind where I play, I just want to do a job for the team," said the former Chelsea man. "I was up against Grady Diangana who is a top player.

"That's the same every week in the Premier League, you have to keep learning and keep improving. That's my job."

The point leaves Brighton 16th in the Premier League, two points above West Brom who sit 17th and are still without a league win since being promoted.

"Frustrated, certainly the second half," added Potter. "Credit to West Brom, I think they responded well. They played better in the second half and pushed us back and they deserved their equaliser. We have to learn from that."

Brighton are next in Premier League action as they travel to Tottenham on Sunday.
