The Seagulls moved four points clear at the top with their fifth win in six league matches this season.

A moving tribute took place before the game for the 11 victims of the Shoreham Airshow crash, which included Worthing United’s Matt Grimstone, a member of Brighton’s ground staff, and Jacob Schilt, who was a Seagulls supporter.

Hemed turned home the only goal on just five minutes after Dale Stephens’ shot was blocked.

Albion could have increased their lead in an opening 15 minutes which they dominated, before Hull had more of the possession in the second half without creating any clear opportunities.

Bobby Zamora made his first Brighton home appearance since April, 2003, and Chris Hughton’s side almost doubled their lead late on but Beram Kayal’s shot was brilliantly blocked by Michael Dawson.
