The Seagulls ended a seven-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield last week before following it up with a 2-1 win at arch rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Albion are five points above the relegation zone with nine games to go, while all the sides below them have just eight matches to play.

Stephens is now looking forward and said: “We sat on 27 points for too long. We got there, and a bit of complacency maybe came in.

"We knew that last week was a massive game. It turned our season around and we’re aiming to build on these last two performances.

“Before the game last week, we knew that we were coming into a period of fixtures where we could try and put as much space between us and the bottom three as possible.

“It’s still not finished and we’ve still got some tough games coming up."

Stephens was delighted to get the win at Palace after losing at Selhurst Park last season and said: "We're aware of what the game means to the fans. It's one they'll enjoy.

"We came here last season and got turned over so it was nice to come away, put in a performance and get the three points."

Stephens also praised the quality of the goals scored by Glenn Murray and Anthony Knockaert and said: "The goals were worthy of winning any game on their own. They were unbelievable finishes.

"It's a huge three points and we'll take it into the cup game at Millwall."
