This was City’s third victory in as many games as their run of cup games came to a close.

The home team started slowly and struggled to settle on the ball. Bexhill looked to capitalise, focusing their energy on making it hard for Chichester to get the ball down and play.

But once Chi had found their stride it didn’t take long for them to open the scoring. After good work down the right, the ball was squared to the far post for Challen to tap in.

It took until the 22nd minute for Chichester to find the net again. The second came as Dowdell was played one-on-one with the visiting goalkeeper and slotted the ball calmly past her to extend the lead.

A third and fourth came before the break. First Waine finished from close range after good build-up play, then Barron got her first of the season with a drive from the edge of the area which bounced awkwardly in front of the keeper.

In the second half Bexhill put more players behind the ball. Chichester were in control, only allowing Bexhill rare forays into the Chichester half.

After ten minutes, Chichester to get their fifth after unselfish play by Widdows found sub Fowlie unmarked at the back post for an easy tap-in. Next it was Widdows’ turn to get in on the act came as a great solo run was finished with an accurate left-footed drive to beat the keeper at her near post.

This Sunday the Green Army return to league action when they visit Keynsham Ladies (2pm).

Chichester’s under-11 girls played in a tournament on the new 4G surface at Sussex FA HQ. They played five matches, winning three, drawing one and losing one.

Their performances were superb as they tried to keep the ball and played football as a team with each goal a product of their good play.

There were three goals for Charley Davey, one for Emily Butler and one for Ellen Middleton.

The under-13s lost 8-0 to Mile Oak despite some brave defending.
