Brilliant Bosham boys lift the cup

Bosham brought home the Invitation Cup silverware after a fantastic final well supported by family and friends at Arundel which ended in a 1-0 win over Worthing Rebels.

Worthing enjoyed the best of the first 20 minutes but didn’t really test skipper Callum Fewell in the Bosham goal.

The Bosham defence of Stuart Andrews, Phil Merrick, Aaron Domblides and Billy Brown were solid and Bosham started to turn the tables and produced good chances for Charlie Hawes and Rob Hayler.

Good work on the right played in Hawes and when his shot was blocked, his follow-up hit the Worthing keeper, struck the post and was cleared.

The best move of the first half saw Jack Antony beat a Worthing defender to a high ball and slide the ball to Tim Callen, whose shot produced a great save from the Worthing keeper.

In the second half Bosham’s midfield began to take control. Another Bosham move down the right put Rob Hayler in and he hit a low shot from 15 yards which went just past the post.

Tyler Todd was causing problems for Worthing down the left and chased everything. With ten minutes left Bosham launched another attack. Antony played the ball to Callen who fed it to James Johnson, whose fantastic first-time strike blasted in, sparking great celebrations.

Worthing were looking for a reply and a free-kick from 25 yards hit the Bosham post and was cleared. It was the only time keeper Fewell was beaten.

Bosham brought on Will Burch and James Adams for Hawes and Rob Hayler and huge cheers rang round the ground when the final whistle went.

Man of the match was Phil Merrick.

It was a fantastic night for Bosham, who looked the part turning up in their club shirts and ties. Bosham thanked Lloyd Fowler for sponsoring the ties.

The management were keen to highlight the great team spirit and attitude of the Bosham players, especially Justin d’Agar and Adil Rahman, who did not figure in the final. The club extended their thanks to kit sponsor Paul Tregear from Lewis Mitsubishi in Bosham – and to all who went along to support Bosham Youth.

Eastbourne Borough 1 Pagham 3

League Cup semi-final

Pagham prevailed against the side who knocked them out of the County Cup.

With the rain lashing down, the cubs adapted well and were 2-0 up after only ten minutes, Dan Simmonds the marksman on both occasions to continue his cup feats.

Andy Chick added a third just before the break.

Eastbourne pulled a goal back after the break but could not find a way through the solid Pagham defence. This win was sweet revenge and manager Dan Cox and the players can be proud. Pagham are waiting to see who they play in the final at Hassocks on Easter Sunday – in their first final for more than a decade.

Chichester travelled to a mudbath at Sidley and kept alive their hopes of an unprecedented four trophies.

City had to play striker Omar Bugiel between the posts but it didn’t faze them.

The young guns took only five minutes to find the net. Lovely play down the right resulted in Manners’ measured pass and a neat finish from top scorer Forry. With 15 minutes gone, Manners again supplied for Forry to grab his second.

Sidley were pinned inside their own half and, five minutes later, the game was effectively finished when Forry’s delivery from the left was met by the head of midfield man Barton.

Sidley enjoyed a ten-minute spell of possession as conditions became heavier.

Skipper Cody was on the receiving end of one overly-committed challenge and was forced to leave the field with injuries to the arm and ribs. Lotten came on and City had to reorganise at the back.

With five minutes of the first half remaining, lively Sidley striker Stuart fired past Bugiel from close range to reduce the arrears.

Almost immediately Forry popped up again to finish Sidley’s hopes.
