This was a cracking game with both sides pushing for a win throughout the pulsating five-goal second half.

Heath supporters were disappointed with the result but spectators were treated to a competitive, entertaining display on damp and windy afternoon

Early on Lancing hit the bar before a long-range shot was safely gathered by Heath keeper Liam Matthews.

Heath’s Jamie Taylor got the ball in the net, but the whistle had blown. Lancing’s Matt Daniels headed over before two home attempts were kept out, andEbbs Jallow shot well wide for the visitors.

After Craig Goodsir had fired just over, Mo Juwara was off target for Lancing, but a goal came just beyond the mid point of the half when Matthews’ long kick was flicked on by Taylor for Lewis Croal to supply Cameron Watts to give Heath the lead. Ben Connolly equalised on the stroke of half-time.

Soon after the restart Heath regained the lead when pinpoint passing enabled Croal to smash home past keeper Will Berry. But Heath’s advantage was short-lived, with Jallow levelling for Lancing from a breakaway, and suddenly the lead changed hands when Connoly put Lancing 3-2 up.

Heath thought they had restored parity, but play had already stopped – but soon, with the Lancing midfield opened up, Croal ran through to score.

Well into added time, Heath’s hearts were broken when Lancing’s Brad Campbell-Francis scored the cruel last ditch decider. Heath are at home again on Saturday to Langney Wanderers.

Steyning 2 Horsham YMCA 1

SCFL premier

Steyning made it three wins in seven days when they beat Horsham YMCA at the Birchwood ground.

YM have had a difficult start to the season with a new-look young side. Town took the lead in the 26th minute through George Cousins.

Town were starting to dominate and Harry Heath made it 2-0 before the break.

YM reduced the deficit in the 75th minute when Diego Carmo headed home a corner .

Steyning look to carry on their winning form when they host Seaford in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Storrington boss Bob Paine was delighted by his side’s 2-1 win at Arundel.

Goals by Liam Griffin and Sam Pidgeon secured their first league win of the campaign, which Paine described as ‘excellent’.

He told us: “We have four players out injured but our three new signings were all involved. Two, Austin Okolo (from Newhaven) and Sam Pidgeon (Littlehampton) made their full debuts and Harrison Whitehouse, who was at Steyning last season, came on in the second half.

“We were 2-0 up in 24 minutes, the first a fine right foot snap shot by Liam from a James Henton cross and the second a bullet header on his debut by Sam this time from a James Henton corner.

“It was an excellent performance by a group missing some important players but the new signings gave us a boost and settled in to our set-up very well.

“We defended very well as a team, particularly the second half when Arundel got an early goal back which gave them some hope, but we managed the game very well to secure the points.

“Hopefully this will be the lift we need to start picking up some well needed points as we try to get into a more comfortable mid-table position.

“I thought the referee, Ian Homewood, had an excellent game – yes he made the odd mistake but then we all did during the match.

“We now look forward to facing Midhurst at home this week.

“They are going very well at the moment so a tough match is in prospect against a strong side.

“I hope we can find that consistency that I’ve been speaking about, if we can then we have a good chance of getting something from the match.”

Loxwood 6 Eastbourne United Assoc 0

Loxwood’s solid start to the season continued with a fine 6-0 win at home to Eastbourne United.

It was goalless for 40 minutes but two goals in the minutes before half-time, scored by Callum Dowdell and Josh Bradley, turned the game in the Magpies’ favour.

Dan Stokes and Sam Smith hit Eastbourne with another quick double just before the hour mark and sub Mark Goldson added a double of his own late on. The win left Loxwood 11th.

West Chiltington 1 Capel 2

WSFL Premier Division

Capel replaced West Chiltington at the top of the table with a fine 2-1 victory.

The visitors took the lead on 26 minutes after Chilt captain Sean Holt mistimed a header leaving a Capel man to fire home from eight yards.

The hosts went close to an equaliser on the half hour when Zak Sanderson fired just over.

Capel started the second half with sustained pressure but couldn’t test the keeper and were made to pay in the 62nd minute when Sanderson was brought down.

Gary Weedon converted the penalty to level the score and he had an excellent chance a few minutes later but couldn’t put it away.

The visitors struck the killer blow with a firm header from a corner, giving the keeper no chance.

It ended West Chiltington’s unbeaten start to the season.

ROFFEY ROBINS

Roffey Robins Atletico under-12s were cruelly defeated by Henfield.

An uneven, sticky pitch, combined with wind and rain meant that neither team could pass and move the ball as they would have liked.

Romario Moratalla and Joshua Bellamy’s pace caused concern for the Henfield defence and Aaron Woodhams was a menace. Henfield took a shortlived lead, as Atletico responded with a Woodhams corner leading to an own goal.

Dan Klamm and Will Anderson managed the Henfield threat well and Theo Botevyle made a fine save.

Henfield regained the lead but Atletico bounced back with Moratalla setting up Euan Gulliver to make it 2-2.

In the dying minutes Henfield converted a free-kick.
