Buckland: What more could I have asked for?

Horsham YMCA manager Peter Buckland says he could not have asked for anymore from his side after a scintillating start to the new season.

They kicked-off the campaign with a 7-0 drubbing of St Francis Rangers on Saturday and followed that up with a 3-1 win at Loxwood on Tuesday night.

Those results have seen the Gorings Mead side set the early pace and they lead the Southern Combination League’s Premier Division on goal difference ahead of Pagham and Eastbourne Town, who all have six points.

Buckland said: “I have said to the players that I think we have turned a major corner. I do not believe last season that we would have got anything out of Tuesday’s game. That’s what continuity and a bit of discipline in your shape brings you.

“They’ve got a good philosophy down at Loxwood, with young players and a lovely surface. I can absolutely guarantee that a lot of teams will come away from here with nothing other than a slapped backside, so it is a good fixture to get out of the way and a good win.

“What more can I ask for? Two wins, ten goals scored, one conceded, and we now go into the FA Cup at home (against AFC Croydon Athletic) on Saturday.”
