With the Hillians going out of the FA Cup and East Thurrock United, who they were due to play progressing, it meant that Hillians were set for a Saturday off.

But the Hillians have brought forward their fixture with Needham Market who were due to be visiting in October to this Saturday.

Last night (Wednesday) the Hillians were due to be playing Lewes at home after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Dulwich Hamlet.

Hillians boss Ian Chapman was pleased with the way his side responded to the FA Cup exit last week and he told Hillians TV “We trained really hard Tuesday and Thursday this week and had a chat about things”

“We were very disappointed last week, but today I can’t fault the players. The endeavour and passion to get a result was second to none. Obviously we would have taken a point with twenty minutes to go and to get the win we are thrilled and I do honestly think that at the end of it you get what you deserve sometimes and we worked so hard and we probably just about deserved to get a result.”

Chapman is pleased with the Hillians start to the season having seen the Premier Division new boys accumulate 16 points from the opening 10 games. “In football it’s always about moving forward and physiologically now we have beaten one of the sides vying for the Championship.

“We’ve beaten sides who are nearer the bottom apart from Merstham who are a little bit higher, so today to beat someone who is up amongst it, and I think will be as good as anything in the league it’s a massive marker.”

“But in saying that we now have two home games now that we have to try and get something out of and if we don’t get anything out of those two this is a bit of a wasted result”.

“As I said we worked really hard on Tuesday and Thursday in training and the attitude of the players has been brilliant and I think it shows a bit of respect to the players that they got beat last week 2-1 and then they’ve stepped up to the plate today and come back and this is what we are about at this Football Club and I couldn’t be more happy.

Defender Andy Pearson, who got the winner, said “After last Saturday we needed a proper team performance and the boys worked their socks off and we were on par with them if not the better team. Their a decent team who are going to be up there so it’s a great result”.

Keeper Josh James added “It was a real good team performance defensively cos they had a lot of the ball but we limited their chances. They got two goals which were sloppy but a great performance, a great win and we’ve set a standard now.”
