In a video message to fans on the club’s website, Lovett also thanked the volunteers who have helped get the ground up to standards.

Lovett said in the message: “I have been speaking to the current squad making sure everything is alright with them, going back to work and their home life.

“With the way things have moved in the last two weeks, I have been making contact with players outside the current squad but at the moment it is just a register of interest, rather than any signings because we are still unclear when the season may start let alone pre-season.”

Lovett has been to the Green Elephants Stadium during lockdown and he has been impressed with what he has seen.

He said: “I have been down to the ground a fair few times keeping an eye on the pitch and seeing how that looks.

“So come when pre-season and when the season starts all the pitches should be looking very plush.

“I have also seen what the volunteers have done down at the ground with the fence panels painted and the turnstiles looking very good.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say that the work you guys have been doing down there is very much appreciated by us and it’s so good we have people like you giving up your time to make those improvements.”

Lovett also gave a shout out to captain Scott KKirkwood, who has helped raise more than £50,000 for the NHS.

“I would also like to say a big congratulations to one of our own players - Scotty Kirkwood - who raised so much money for the NHS during this period.”
