In making the announcement, Newell said: “This is a very positive development for the progress of our football club. Since Ian has been at the Green Elephants Stadium, the Club has progressed in leaps and bounds, and is now playing at the highest level in its history. We owe a great debt to Ian and his management team, whose experience and professionalism have brought the club this far. I know he has had numerous approaches from other clubs, so his commitment to Burgess Hill Town is really pleasing and I’m sure he will continue to add a new dimension to our footballing progress for the benefit of the players and supporters alike. We know it takes time to climb the ‘football pyramid’ but with Ian at the helm I believe we have every chance of doing so.

“Following on from my discussions with Ian, I thought it would be useful to take this opportunity to explain how the club conducts business during the close season. Ian Chapman’s management team approach is to go about business ‘quietly’ - unlike other managers - and not get involved in ‘bidding’ wars over players. We want players to join us for the right reasons and get involved in something that we are building towards, as we did when we Ian first came to the club which culminated us winning the Ryman South League in his third season.

“As I have said before, we are committed to taking the club forward on a base of financial stability - which isn’t easy by the way! We learnt a lot in our first season in the Ryman Premier League and although we have seen some of the clubs around us busily trying to make new ‘impact’ signings, having gained 50 points in our first Ryman Premier League season we are confident that ‘targeting’ the right players to complement the players we worked with last season is the way in which Ian and his management team will find further improvement to our playing squad. This I believe will be reflected in our league position not only next season, but every season. We intend to put out a team of footballers who want to play for Burgess Hill Town FC and it will be a team our supporters will be proud of week in week out.

“Meanwhile, I hope you are enjoying ‘ the Euros’ (and as I’m sure you will have noted, many games will be shown on our big screen in the clubhouse) and looking forward to another season supporting the club in the Ryman Premier League in 2016/17.”
