Busy day of football lies in store

With Hastings United fixtureless today (Saturday), attention switches to the area’s Sussex County Football League teams.

Rye United will be desperate to start climbing the Division One table, but they face a stern test at home to fourth-placed Littlehampton Town. Kick-off at The Salts is 3pm.

It’s been a tough week for Rye as influential striker Andy Atkin has announced his retirement and defender Jono Richardson has moved to Ryman Division One South side Sittingbourne. Only runaway leaders East Preston have won more games than Littlehampton.

In Division Two, fourth-placed Little Common will travel to second-placed Haywards Heath Town missing virtually a whole side. Adam Smith, Josh Elliott-Noye, Charlie Bachellier, Jerome Smith, Jon Saunders and Dom Bristow are injured, while Lewis Hole, Steve Morris and Anthony Cooper are away. Lee Carey is in talks with other clubs.

Westfield will be targeting a fourth win in five Division Two games when they host promotion hopefuls Broadridge Heath. Westfield will welcome back Gordon Cuddington, Ashley Paine and Lewis Parsons, although Mike Booth will be absent. Kick-off at The Parish Field is 2pm.

Also in Division Two, Bexhill United will be eager to build on an improved display in last weekend’s 1-1 draw away to Oakwood as they entertain relegation threatened Rustington. Kick-off at The Polegrove is 3pm.
