Chairman steps down after 15 years

A presentation was made to Drinkwater at the club’s end-of-season awards evening last weekend in recognition of his contribution to the club.

He said: “I’ve stood down as chairman, but I’m not leaving - I’m still going to be about helping. With the new ground coming closer, it needs someone with more time than me.”

A successor is yet to be appointed, although Drinkwater said an un-named person has expressed an interest in taking on the role.

On the playing front, Jamie Bell was the big winner at the club’s presentation night, which took place at the Westfield Community Hall.

The full-back picked up the first team players’ player, Emma Weightman Cup for the most improved player and Ron Cruttenden Supporters’ Cup.

Matt Dadswell was named first team manager’s player, while Peter Newstead and Peter Baker received the second team manager’s and players’ player accolades respectively.

Billy-Jo Driver won the Monty Eldridge Shield for the club’s leading scorer and third team manager’s player. The third team players’ player was Rob Higgins and Gill Attewell was presented with the Clubman Shield.

The evening also featured music from The Kytes and a magic show by Michael Drinkwater.

Westfield’s first team finished 12th in Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two, the seconds were runners-up in Reserve Section (East) and reached three cup semi-finals, and the thirds were seventh in Macron East Sussex Football League Division Four.
