“VCD have had a change in management and players so we don’t know much about them. They haven’t played as their game on Saturday was called off. We will try our best to get a point or three on the board.”

Burgess Hill started the season in great style with a 2-1 win against Needham Market in their first ever game in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Joe Keehan and Pat Harding scored for the Hillians and with a late fight back from Needham, Burgess Hill managed to hold on to take victory. Manager Ian Chapman was delighted to take all three points, he said: “It was an excellent win. We played some really good stuff and overall we got a deserved three points.

“Needham won the Ryman North division last season so we had never come across them before. It was a difficult first game of the season. It was a bit cagey in the first part of the game, but we took control. We could have been two or three up before half time but we went in 1-0 up.

“In the second half it was more of an even game, but over the 90 minutes, we edged it and deserved the three points.”
