And he has spelt out he might not be their manager unless they step up to the mark.

He was not happy with their display during Wednesday night’s 4-0 defeat at home to Bognor.

They went 3-0 behind with just 31 minutes on the clock and did not show much fight to recover.

Chapman said: “Nowhere near good enough. You would have thought it was us who had played loads of games and not them. We’ve been out-played, out-fought and out-thought.

“The players look under pressure, look nervous and we have now got a massive game on Saturday, like a cup final, against Hendon at home.

“We ask the players to give 100 percent and have a real go and they didn’t do that today.”

The result leaves them still looking for one win from their last three games to stay up. Chapman spoke frankly to the Mid Sussex Times.

He said: “We are still not safe (from relegation). Looking at today we are miles away. There are some big decisions to be made at this football club.

“We need wholesale changes. Some of the players have probably been here too long.

“We are getting good crowds in through the door but we look frightened to play.

“We’ve got people here who have played at a higher level (Joe Keehan, Andy Pearson, James Fraser, Sam Fisk loads of them) and they’ve got to man-up.

“They’ve got to step-up. They are playing for their futures, I am managing for my future,

“If they don’t and we go down, they’ll be gone and I’ll be gone, that’s football!”
