Chichester are mashed by the Mullets

Rampant Arundel inflicted Chichester's heaviest defeat of the season.

The visitors took the lead in the seventh minute when Sam Duran’s back pass was intercepted and put away by Arundel’s Scott Tipper.

City responded well and a route-one goal in the 15th minute drew them level when a Shaun Benjamin free-kick from inside his own half evaded everyone but Michael Turvey, who headed in from close range.

Arundel regained the lead ten minutes later when Josh Biggs chipped the helpless Derek Harding. City boss Adie Girdler felt the forward was offside.

Two minutes later, Turvey’s mistimed tackle brought an angry response from Dave Walker. The pair squared up to each other and ref Daniel Austin brandished a straight red for Turvey but just a yellow for Walker.

A poor start to the second half from Chichester saw Harding parry the ball to Howard Neighbour, who made it 3-1.

Neighbour scored his second on 68 minutes Matt Axel had the last say for Arundel when he was played in for an injury-time fifth.

Girdler said: “Our defending and passing at the back was reckless. Only Broadbent, Ford, Cutler and Harding applied themselves.”

CITY: Harding, Mullins, Duran, Broadbent, Benjamin, Ford, Briggs, Cutler, Brockway, Vassallo, Turvey. Subs: Searle, Haruna.
