Chichester ladies throw away the points against Hassocks

Chichester ladies' home clash with Hassocks started with the visitors on the front foot but they didn't really threaten the Chichester goal.

Chichester took their time to get going but started to play good football. Kerri Grant up front was causing problems for the Hassocks defence and was getting her heels clipped on a regular basis.

The referee awarded a penalty to Chichester on 35 minutes for a handball and Grant smashed it in. Chichester began piling on the pressure and another foul in the box saw Kirsty Dowle slot home another penalty to make it 2-0 just before half-time.

A badly-defended corner saw Hassocks make it 2-1 early in the second half and Chichester’s heads started to drop.

Chichester failed to take their chances and a Hassocks striker broke the offside trap to make it 2-2 with ten minutes left.

It looked like a point apiece as woman of the match Becky Steed stopped Hassocks on many occasions, but the Hassocks striker found herself onside again from a ball over the top and slot home from six yards in the dying seconds to win it 3-2 for Hassocks.

Chichester threw away three vital points and are still looking for their first league win.
