Classy EP hit six in top-quality showing

EAST Preston Football Club cruised to the top of County League Division 1 on bank holiday Monday with a classy showing against a lacklustre Lancing side at The Lashmar.

EP oozed class across the field and scored six well-taken goals as Darren Boswell (two) and Shaheen Sadough were on the scoresheet against their former club in the first half.

After the break, the home side’s dominance continued as Charlie Farmer fired in a 35-yard wonder goal and Liam Baitup and Joe Shelley were also on target.

The opening goal came after just ten minutes as Marc Pullan laid the ball off to Boswell, who beautifully curled home.

Two minutes later, Boswell haunted his old club again, latching on to a diagonal Niall O’Hagan ball over the top and poking home past Lehkyj.

Baitup, who dual-signed for EP last week on a month’s loan from Eastbourne Town, went close moments later as Boswell picked Jonno Melia’s pocket in the middle of the park and threaded the forward through.

A well-worked move between Lancers’ Owen Callaghan, Dom Shepherd and Alex Howell got the latter through but, just as he was about to shoot, Pullan put in an excellent last-ditch, goal-saving tackle.

EP added a third on 27 minutes as another O’Hagan cross picked out Sadough at the far post and he was allowed far too much time by the Lancing defenders to pull the ball down, set himself, round Simon Lehkyj and slot home.

The second half was just two minutes old when Farmer picked up the ball in the middle of the park and drilled a dropping effort into the bottom right corner with Lehkyj rooted to the spot.

Baitup added a fifth on 50 minutes as he completed a smart lob over the Lancing stopper. And substitute George Gaskin then drew the goalkeeper and unselfishly squared to Shelley for a tap-in on the hour mark.

EP were happy to play keep ball in the final stages with Kevin Keehan pulling the strings, after Fogden picked up a second yellow for blocking Melia with ten minutes left, but, even then, Lancers never looked like threatening even a consolation.

EP boss Dominic Di Paola said: “We played quite well, considering we did not play well at all on Saturday.

“Bozzy, Liam and Shaz all were on the score sheet, so it’s nice to see them all score. It sounds silly but it just shows if you shoot, the more chances you create and it’s nice to get a clean sheet, too.”
