Clubs ganging up in pursuit of Pogue

THE area’s Sussex County Football League clubs are battling it out in pursuit of Kenny Pogue.

The Hastings United striker watched Bexhill United’s game against Littlehampton Town on Saturday, but was no closer to joining the Division Two outfit in the middle of this week.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, Bexhill manager Gerard Moyse said: “I’ve not heard anything more about Kenny apart from the fact that Sidley and Rye have put their two pennies worth in now.”

Moyse and his Sidley United counterpart John Lambert have this week spoken to Hastings boss Jason Hopkinson about Pogue, but the fact that he is under contract at The Pilot Field is proving a stumbling block to a permanent move.

Lambert said: “I don’t know quite how much (money) he’s getting, but normally when you take players on loan you have to pay their wages. Maybe Bexhill can do that, but we certainly can’t.”

Hopkinson said he is keen for Pogue to remain a Hastings player, but that the 23-year-old is likely to go on loan for a month to a local club in a bid to regain fitness following illness and a change of job.
