Clubs recruit in wake of defeats

Both clubs are back in action tonight (Tuesday) having brought in players on the back of heavy defeats at the weekend.

Rye have signed Maidstone United academy starlets Jack Sullivan, Ashley Long and Latvia under-16 international Martins Remess in time for their trip to Ringmer, kick-off 7.45pm.

Price said: “They’re good footballers. Whether they’re ready to make that step into senior football we will see, but I’m willing to give them the chance. I don’t think anyone can complain if they’re left out.”

Although unbeaten in Sussex County Football League Division One, Scott Price’s Rye side is still smarting from a 4-0 drubbing at Selsey in the Sussex RUR Charity Cup on Saturday.

Luke Woodley is on holiday and Andy Atkin could be struggling to get back from Cambridgeshire for a match which took place two weeks ago only to be abandoned at half time because of a floodlight failure.

Sidley completed the transfer of midfielder Sam Willett from Rye yesterday evening, meaning they’ve brought in four former Rye players in five days following Allan McMinigal, Josh Pelling and Kenny Pogue.

The Blues will be eager to atone for a 5-1 thrashing at Shoreham in Sussex Division One on Saturday when they travel to Hailsham Town tonight. Hailsham have lost all of their home matches so far this term.

Sidley manager John Lambert said: “They know we aren’t in the best of form and it’s whether my lads are up for a scrap. It’s lucky it’s coming round quickly and maybe we can do something about it (their poor form).”
