Clymping reach the last eight

CLYMPING Football Club will travel to Little Common in the quarter-finals of the County League Division 2 Cup after a 6-3 victory over Loxwood on Saturday.

Clymping had lost 6-1 to Loxwood earlier in the season but Clymping manager Darran Atkins was delighted with his team’s clinical showing and said: “We were very good, they’re a quality side and it’s nice for us to still be in a cup, as they keep you going and with the way we’ve improved, maybe even a target for us.

“I’ll be looking for us to take this form into the league, and it would have been great for the game to have been a league game. I was disappointed they scored three, but it’s a minor irritation as we played very well.

“After we were poor last week, we looked lively, competed well and bossed it throughout. They’re still the best team we’ve played this year, and it was very pleasing.”

Clymping raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening 20 minutes through Steve Duffin’s individual strike, Luke Sweeney’s close-range finish and Duffin’s headed second.

Damon Aston pulled a goal back for Loxwood on 40 minutes, but Clymping stretched their lead through Sweeney’s second on 50minutes.

Duffin then completed his hat-trick with his 12th goal of the season on 69 minutes before Kevin Broad volleyed in to make it 5-2 with 20 minutes remaining.
