Common & Bexhill win again

Little Common and Bexhill United continued their fine starts to the season by winning again on Saturday.

Common triumphed 5-2 away to Loxwood in Sussex County Football League Division Two, while Bexhill prevailed 2-1 at Rustington in a John O’Hara League Cup second round tie.

Jared Lusted put Common two-up with assists from Jordan Wood and George Palmer before Asa Pearson poked home amid appeals for offside to make it 2-1 at half time.

Jamie Crone’s seventh of the season restored Common’s two-goal cushion, but not for long because Damon Aston fired into the top corner for 3-2.

Chris Cumming-Bart made it 4-2 in the 85th minute and substitute Lewis Hole made sure of a fourth successive Common victory with a fifth goal two minutes later.

Bexhill followed up their win away to Division One side East Grinstead Town in the John O’Hara Cup first round by beating fellow Division Two team Rustington.

Two goals from Casey Ham, taking his tally for the season to seven, were enough to give Bexhill a home tie against Lingfield, Saltdean United or Dorking Wanderers in round three.

Westfield, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 defeat in Division Two away to a Midhurst & Easebourne outfit which had drawn all of its previous five matches.

Gordon Cuddington gave Westfield a half time lead with his fourth of the campaign, but two second half goals from Midhurst turned the game on its head.
