Confidence back at United

The confidence has returned to Hastings United according to player-manager Sean Ray.

It’s been a much better week for United following 3-0 victories over Cray Wanderers in the Ryman Football League Premier Division on Saturday and Crawley Town in a Sussex Senior Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.

United player-manager Sean Ray said: “They say a week’s a long time in football. We were on a bad run since we were knocked out of the FA Cup at Middlesbrough and it’s hard to keep that morale up.

“It was about getting that win. You can see the confidence in the boys again. We shouldn’t be where we are in the league, but ultimately we are and it’s only us that can get us out of it.”

United are third-from-bottom of the league (with two to go down this season as opposed to the usual four) and the good news is the teams above them are all bunched tightly together.

The U’s are only four points behind 16th-placed Harrow Borough and have games in hand on all of the teams immediately above them. They have 16 league matches remaining.

Ray is hoping to carry the form of the last two games into the visit of mid-table Hampton & Richmond Borough today (Saturday).

Jamie Crellin and Tom Vickers complete their suspensions today and will return for the trip to Lowestoft Town on Monday night.

Ray still has three more matches to run on his ban, while Matt Armstrong-Ford and Bradley Goldberg are due to return from injury next week. Sam Adams is back as well.
