The season for League Two clubs was brought to an end on Friday and a weighted points per game formula wasused to resoolve the league table – although this still has to be ratified by the FA.

It’s a fair final placing for the Reds, who had a poor first half to the season under Gabriele Cioffi before John Yems and Lee Bradbury came in and steadied the ship.

He said: “Someone was telling me that with the form we showed since the start of the year, we could have made it to the top six or something.

“But whose to say you wouldn’t lose the next nine games?

“When you look at it, it was lucky we did have that bit of form [before lockdwon] because otherwise we could have been struggling at the other end.

“It just makes no sense to me though – if you do promotions, you have to do relegations, and that’s across the whole of the divisions, not just our divison.”
