Reds’ winless League 2 run was extended to five matches on Tuesday following a 3-0 home humbling at the hands of strugglers Crewe Alexandra.

Along with a run of five fixtures without a win, defeat to Crewe meant Crawley have failed to register a win at the Checkatrade Stadium since January.

On the flip side, The Red Devils are unbeaten in their past three away from home, winning two and drawing the other, a run Cox wants to see extended at Grimsby.

He said: “The performance against Crewe was not good enough and it’s something we want to put right. We’ve had a lot of games over the past few weeks and the trip to Grimsby gives us a chance to put Tuesday’s defeat right.

“For whatever reason, we seem to be putting in better performances away from home at the minute. It’s difficult to put your finger on why that is but I’m hoping it continues on Saturday.”

After a 17th league loss of the season against Crewe, Crawley dropped two places to 18th in the table.

Reds have a sizeable 12-point cushion between themselves and second-bottom Newport County with nine games to go. Cox feels a quick turnaround in form will see them climbing the table once again.

He added: “We’ve got a big gap between ourselves and the teams currently in the bottom two. Everyone at the club is looking up rather than down. A couple of wins in this league gets you moving in the right direction and up the table once again.”
