The 22-year-old former Aldershot player has been playing for Scottish Premiership club Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where injury restricted him to make just 11 appearances last season.

Drummy revealed he has been a long-term admirer of the attacking midfielder who joined Reds on a one-year contract yesterday.

The Reds boss compares League 2 with the Scottish Championship, one level below where he has been playing.

Drummy said: “I brought him in for his pace, power, his wing-play.

“I saw Jordan about four years ago when Chelsea were down at Aldershot and he was at Arsenal’s Academy when I was there.

“My eye tells me he’s a player who I think will go higher, so I think he’s a very good signing.

However Roberts’ arrival was not prompted by Gwion Edwards’ sale last week to Peterborough.

Drummy said: “We’ve been dealing with Jordan for six weeks, trying to get it over the line. So it didn’t have any affect.”
