Pompey sit second in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier division, but Wasps are just four points behind them with a game in hand ahead of this weekend’s game.

The two sides meet at Horley Town’s New Defence Ground (2pm).

Stephens scored against her former team in a 3-1 win last season, but knows Portsmouth will be difficult opponents – particular as they have a Hampshire County Cup final on the horizon.

“They’ll have players playing for places in the final, so we know it’ll be a tough game,” Stephens said.

“They’re a good side, you don’t always know what you’re going to get from them but they’re hard to play against. They’ll be thinking they can get a result against anyone.”

Wasps come into the game off the back of a 4-1 win at Worthing in the Sussex County Cup, and they toppled promotion rivals Watford in their last league game.

Stephens says there is still more to come from the team, particularly with new signings still bedding in.

“The depth of the squad means we’re pushing each other in training and giving [manager] Dave [Cole] a real headache.

“We maybe haven’t seen it click on the pitch yet, but when we do it’ll be very good to play in.

“We’re looking forward to the game. We’ve been made to feel very welcome by everyone at Horley.”
