Crawley Town striker Harrold is Observer player of the year

He received a big round of applause when he was presented with his prize in the Redz Bar after the Barnet game.

The former Bristol Rovers frontman scored nine goals in 38 appearances, after having an injury-hit season on the sidelines last season.

Reds’ miserable run-in might not have been so bad if he hadn’t had to sit out the last five matches having had a knee operation.

Harrold said: “From a personal point of view I’m reasonably happy and am delighted the Crawley Observer gave me the award.

“As a team the way we’ve finished is a dismal run of results.

“We could have finished with a good run and everyone would be happy.”

Harrold put the poor run down to injuries and the difficult circumstances.

He said: “We had some injuries and a small squad where we haven’t been able to freshen it up when we’d have liked to.

“The last two games I think we’ve played well but didn’t put the ball in the net. There have been mistakes all over the pitch and it’s left a bad taste in the mouth. I think we will come back fresh after the break and will improve next season.”
