The 29 year old midfielder - who spent a highly successful three-month loan spell at the club during the 2011/12 season - has joined on a free transfer having signed a two-year deal.

Drury made 30 appearances for Ipswich last season in the Championship before being released by the Tractor Boys last month, and Reds boss Richie Barker believes his versatility makes him an excellent addition to his squad.

Barker said: “What I like about Andy as much as anything is his versatility. He can play in either central midfield or in wide areas. He has terrific energy and can also weigh in with his share of goals.

“He is coming here for the right reasons. He acquitted himself well in the Championship and wants to play at that level again.

“He’s the sort of player I want at the club, someone who is good in possession, works hard and has the right attitude so I’m delighted he’s coming to us and I’m sure our fans are too because I know he was extremely popular during his loan spell with us.”

That loan spell saw him score four goals in 15 games after joining on an emergency loan in September 2012, prompting then boss Steve Evans to make an unsuccessful attempt to seal a permanent deal.

Drury said: “I’m delighted to be back at Crawley Town, a few things have changed but to be back here feels great.

“I’m hoping to create and score as many goals as I can in what is a very competitive league next season. I’ve been impressed by the gaffer and the group of players we have here. I’m thrilled to be back.”

Drury began his career at Stevenage following a successful non-league career which included spells at Lewes. He joined Luton before Ipswich paid £150,000 for his services in July 2011.

In total he has made 152 League and Cup appearances, scoring 14 goals.
