Gregory praises character as Reds grab a late point at Swindon

Matt Tubbs equalised with ten minutes remaining after the Robins grabbed a second half lead through ex-Crawley loanee Nathan Byrne, and although Gregory was pleased with his team’s display, he felt that his side should have been ahead at the break.

“I was aggrieved that we didn’t come in at half time at least two goals ahead,” Gregory reflected. “We broke in the first half with pace and we started the game very well.

“We were pressing up high and trying to win the ball up the pitch. We’ve come here and more than matched them all over the field, but we lost a little bit of rhythm when Andy Drury came off and I made the change bringing Sullay (Kaikai) on.”

The Reds manager felt his side should have been awarded a penalty when Darren Ward brought down Jamie Proctor midway through the first half in a game lacking many clear-cut chances.

“I think even the Swindon fans thought they were lucky to get away with that (the penalty),” Gregory said.

“It was more blatant than the one at the weekend (against Walsall) but there’s nothing you can do about it. We just got on with it and accepted it.

“We went behind to a really sloppy goal but we showed amazing resilience and it shows me the character of the team that they fought back and got something from the game.”
