The 19 year-old suffered an ankle injury early on in pre season, and the Bermuda international will play for Conference South club Havant and Waterlooville for four weeks to get match fitness.

Reds boss Richie Barker revealed Smith is ahead of schedule with his recovery from the injury and getting some matches under his belt will help bring him back to his best.

Barker said: ‘He needs games for match fitness and Havant are a good club who play at a decent standard and this will help both his short and long term development.’

Havant and Waterlooville sit in 17th place in the Conference South and it’s hoped the paperwork will all go through in time for him to be involved in their game on Wedneday night.

Smith has not been given permission to play in the FA Cup during his time on loan there.

He previously enjoyed a prolific loan spell with Met Police in the first three months of the 2012-13 season, scoring 24 goals.
