Reds’ 3-0 win away to newport County on Tuesday night lifted them up to 21st in League Two having been second to bottom after a dire 3-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

The manner of the home defeat drew boos from the home fans.

It is the first time this season that the supporters have really turned on their side and a section of the Bruce Winfield Stand voiced their opinions on the board, players and Yates.

That came after seeing Reds win just once in their opening nine league games, scoring only six goals, although the chants were muted as the crowd of 1,659 was Crawley’s lowest ever in the Football League.

Yates admits he can understand the frustrations of the fans, but has ‘total faith’ things will turn around. He said: “I will be doing all I can to turn the fortunes around. I am not enjoying having won only one game in nine, I am not enjoying four defeats on the bounce.

“It’s a good club and it’s one that I have total faith that the players and myself will turn it around. At the minute it is just not going for us, I won’t be shirking out of it, I won’t be coming off the players, we just have to demand more from each other and make it a success.

“It’s not going to come by just a little bit of luck and going out and hoping we can get a result. We have to believe that we can and prove that we can.

“This club has been relegated last season and everyone expects things to go well and I am the same.

“I expect things to be better than they are and I can understand their frustrations, but I still believe I am the man to turn this around and we are only early in the season.

“We have not started how we wanted to and not put ourselves in the position we wanted to, but we will continue to work hard.

“I have not used the injuries and lack of numbers as an excuse and I am not going to start now, we are where we are and now we have got to deal with it and we will.”
