Reds see the striker as key to their continued success as he has scored ten goals this season, including nine during a three-month loan.

His two goals on Saturday earned him the Man of the Match award from match sponsors the Crawley Observer.

Murphy was also named in the League Two Team of the Week by Sky Bet.

Murphy hinted he would like to make a return to Crawley in the New Year.

He said: “I’m happy here, I’m playing well but it’s not really in my hands, it’s for the two clubs to discuss so I’ll just have to wait and see for now.

“I don’t want to be wasting my team on the bench or in the stand, I’m fit, I’m scoring goals so I want to be playing.

“Last game, maybe back in January who knows? Three more points and a few goals will be ideal. Hopefully we can take this momentum into the Christmas period starting with Barnet.”

However Oldham are currently second to bottom in League One which could mean a return to the side for in-form Murphy to help with their battle against relegation rather than a renewed deal with Crawley.
