The bid for the midfielder is believed to be in the region of £250,000, sources in the north have indicated.

Former Reds boss Evans is making plenty of moves to strengthen his squad when the transfer window reopens in January to fuel a potential play-off charge.

He has just signed Nouha Dicko on loan from Wigan, and speaking about that deal he told a website the Millers had launched a ‘six-figure’ bid for a player at an English club, understood to be Adams, as well as another, ‘club record’ bid to a Scottish side.

The 27-year-old midfielder’s contract runs out at the end of this summer and Reds could look to cash in on one of their most valuable players.

Bolton-born Adams, a midfielder who can play on either wing, was signed for Reds by Sean O’Driscoll on a free transfer in June 2012 after a spell at Rochdale. His young family still live in the north west of the country.

Speaking to the Crawley Observer earlier in the week, Evans refused to be drawn on exact targets, saying: “I am working on a number of player movements in and out of Rotherham United and I have given my chairman the names of three players I would like to bring here either now or in the January transfer window.”

If Adams was to make the switch he would become the latest Crawley player to leave for Rotherham with Claude Davis and Scott Shearer currently at the club.
