The 30-year-old has re-joined the club from Premier League Crystal Palace after playing four games for Reds earlier in the campaign.

This solves the immediate goalkeeping problem caused last Saturday when the only keeper at the club, Brian Jensen suffered a dislocated finger during their 2-2 draw with MK Dons, forcing striker Matt Harrold to go in goal.

Jensen is expected to be out for three weeks recovering from his injury.

Price is hugely experienced, having played for nine clubs after starting his career at Ipswich in 2003.

He has also worked under interim manager Dean Saunders when Dean was assistant manager of Wales and Price won 11 full caps for his country.

Dean said: “We’re delighted to have Lewis back. I have worked with him before and know his capabilities and I believe he did well when he was with us earlier this season.

“He’s experienced and knows the club and how we work so it should be relatively straightforward for him to step back into things.

“It’s been a very hectic last 24 hours trying to sort the goalkeeping situation out but we’re delighted to have Lewis back with us.”

Lewis will team up with the squad today ahead of Saturday’s game against Rochdale at Spotland.
