He said he felt proud having Edwards as part of the club as well as his entire group of players who have been undergoing an exhausting schedule which has realised three wins in seven days.

Gregory said: “We deserved the victory today. We always knew it would be an exceptionally difficult game today because they are a very good team.

“It was a similar, close game to when we beat them 3-2 at Brisbane Road. They started better than us but we got the first goal.

“In the second half they put us on the back foot but we got a quality second goal. Michael Jones but a brilliant ball on the head of Andy Drury and he picked his spot.

“We ended up going ahead 2-1 and after that I couldn’t see us losing the game.

“I have 12 players out of contract in the summer and they are fighting for their lives. I am fortunate to have this group of players.

“With our improved league position, jumping into the top half we can take a risk with our team selection. “Young Gwion is not a big risk, he’s come from a Premier League club and has done brilliantly for us today, as has everyone. He stood up to big Scott Cuthbert.

“Big Kyle McFadzean dived onto the goalline to chest it clear the ball in the final minute and he towered above everyone heading balls away.

“He is my John Terry, he really is.”
