Crone fires Common to derby win

LITTLE Common claimed a 1-0 win in their local derby away to Westfield on Bank Holiday Monday.

The only goal came with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining of this Sussex County League Division Two contest at The Parish Field when Dominic Cruttenden’s clever scooped pass released Jamie Crone who kept his cool to fire home.

Crone had earlier been denied by the post after good work by the influential Chris Cumming-Bart.

The defeat was harsh on a Westfield side that deserved something from the match, and prior to falling behind were beginning to build up a head of steam.

Westfield’s best chance fell to Dave Pugh before half time but from eight yards he failed to get his foot round the ball and his shot flashed wide. Pugh was also denied by a fine block from George Palmer while Joe Barham had a drive beaten out by Jon Saunders.

Bexhill United drew 2-2 away to Eastbourne United AFC in a Division Two match between two teams boasting 100 per records at kick-off.

Peter Cooper opened the scoring for the hosts before Casey Ham levelled soon after half time. Josh Elliott-Noye then gave Bexhill the lead only for the prolific Liam Baitup to restore parity shortly afterwards.
