Jamie Crone scored a hat-trick and Lewis Hole bagged a brace as Common recorded a comfortable 5-1 victory against a youthful Selsey team.

The visitors arrived at the Rec with a bare XI and endured the worst possible start to the Macron Store Southern Combination Football League Division One match when Crone knocked in a Martin Denny cross with barely 10 seconds on the clock.

One soon became two when Russell Eldridge released Hole, who squared the ball to the unmarked Crone to smash in his second in the seventh minute.

The visitors battled to try and find a way back into the match, but the home goal was rarely troubled and Selsey’s best chance to reduce the deficit was sliced wide following a good ball across the box from the lively Lindon Miller.

Common could have extended their lead, but Hole saw a goalbound effort pushed away before Eldridge fired a shot wide as the scoreline remained 2-0 at half time.

Common effectively sealed the points 10 minutes into the second half. Crone grabbed his hat-trick after racing on to a Cam Burgon throughball and rounding the goalkeeper before squeezing the ball in off the post from the tightest of angles.

It was the visitors who struck next when Miller was found at the back post to rifle home with just under half-an-hour to play.

At the other end, Hole dragged an effort wide of the post and a Dom Bristow cross just cleared the crossbar.

It was Hole who struck Common’s fourth when he calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper following a delightful pass from Liam Foster with 15 minutes left.

Common kept the ball well without creating too many further chances and looked comfortable as the clock ticked down. However, there was still time for Hole to add his second of the afternoon in the 86th minute with a low drive into the bottom corner.
