Crosstown rivals set for battle

Little Common will host Bexhill United in round two of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup tonight (Tuesday). Kick-off at the Recreation Ground is 7.15pm.

Common player-manager Russell Eldridge said: “They’re always close encounters and it will probably be a similar game to the second game of the season (when Common beat Bexhill 4-3 in the Peter Bentley Challenge Cup).”

Bexhill are fourth in Macron Store Sussex County Football League Division Two with 25 points from 13 games, while Common are five points and two positions worse off.

Bexhill boss Marc Munday said: “I’m looking forward to that obviously because it’s Little Common. If I could have six points over them in the league and lose to them in the two cups I’d be happy with that, but saying that, it’s Little Common and I want to beat them every time we play them. It’s a local derby, and for me and the group of lads I’ve got, they all want to impress against them.”

Both teams will go into the match in high spirits following league victories at the weekend. Bexhill made it three successive wins with a 2-0 success at home to Mile Oak, while Common stunned second-placed Wick & Barnham United 4-0.

Hastings United’s scheduled match away to Horsham in Ryman Football League Division One South tonight has been postponed as Horsham have a Sussex Senior Cup match of their own which has taken precedence.

Hastings’ under-21 team suffered a 5-1 defeat at home to Faversham Town in the Ryman U21 League South Division last night. Jordan Woodley scored United’s goal in the first half.
