Hassocks took a first half lead when Jack Mallet was played through the middle and held of the defence to calmly slot past the Cosmos keeper. However, it was Cosmos striker Nathan Hardingham that stole the show in the second half for the visitors with a classy hat trick.

His first was a fine solo effort where he took on 2 defenders on the edge of the box and tucked his shot inside the near post to make it 1-1. With Hassocks still reeling from the equaliser Hardingham grabbed a quick second with another tidy finish. With the clock ticking down and Hassock chasing the game there were a string of chances for both sides with fantastic saves from both keepers.

But then Hardingham took the plaudits again with a 30 yard screamer to complete his hat trick and man of match performance in style.

Hassocks Juniors Chairman Jonathan Pearce said, “It was a great evening which highlighted all that is good about grassroots football. The match was exciting and the crowd was enthusiastic. Hassocks Senior & Junior clubs worked together for the benefit of the boys and the occasion. Pat Harding being there to hand out the medals capped the evening for me.”
