Cup is Bridge too far for Reds ... Sids have Rott-en day

Bosham’s hopes of making the quarter-finals were dashed at Three Bridges.

The Robins could count themselves unfortunate to be a goal down at the break against the Ryman one south outfit’s development squad, who had seen off Sidlesham in the last round to set up the tie.

However the second period was one to forget, with Marco Giambelardini recording the visitors’ only moment to savour, in scoring a consolation on 82 minutes.

It’s back to Sussex League division-three action on Saturday as Bosham host Burgess Hill & Hurst Albion at Walton Lane (2pm). Langney Wanderers and Southwick both recorded weekend wins, with Bosham now in third spot, although the top six places are separated by just eight points.

Meanwhile, Bosham have been named division three team of the month for November.

It’s the second time this season Andy Probee’s side have scopped the award after they also took September’s prize.

During the month, the Robins won three of their four competitive fixtures – two in cup competitions – with the only blot on their copybook their first home defeat of the season, to Southwick.

Sidlesham had disappointing and frustrating visit to Rottingdean on a challenging pitch.

The first half started with the visitors seeing plenty of possession but their failure to convert this in to any clear-cut chance was punished when Rottingdean’s only attack led to a corner met by their unmarked centre-half Michael Herriott.

Sids skipper Andy Carragher brought down a Rottingdean striker 25 yards out and was adjudged to have been the last man, so saw red.

Rottingdean soaked up more pressure but Sidlesham started the second half with purpose and were rewarded when Dan Basil muscled his way into the box and neatly finished.

The management wanted three points and looked like getting them as the game opened up.

But with minutes left, misery was heaped on to the visitors when an attempted cross from Rottingdean winger Logan Gunn sailed into the top corner for the home side to snatch all three points.

Notable performances for Sidlesham came from John Pope in goal – he stepped up from the reserves and looked comfortable.

Sids host Billingshurst this Saturday.
