City were unable to get their second home win in a row as an early Uckfield goal was enough to sink them.

After a cagey start, Uckfield created the best opportunity when Taylor had header brilliantly saved by Jack Fagan as got a hand on the goal-bound effort to tip it over.

It wasn’t long before they found the net – Greenall scored from close range following a low cross from Wood in the 19th minute. City were being reduced to long shots with Danny Boyle and Kieran Hartley going close from range. And despite some skilful play from Daren Pearce, which drew a free kick out wide for Chi, they went into the break trailing.

The game’s main talking point came five minutes into the second half as Saunders was shown a straight red card and City were awarded a penalty after he handled the ball on the line following a Pearce corner.

Ruben French stepped up to take it, but Collick got down well to his left and saved. Being down to ten men didn’t appear to faze Uckfield, and in the 60th minute they created their best opportunity of the half when Wood shot across the face of goal, forcing Fagan to make another outstanding save.

City so nearly got an equaliser when Dan Hegarty went close in the dying seconds with a shot from close range, but Collick was there to deny him.

RUR Cup second round

Seaford were unable to cause an upset when they met Chichester in the Sussex RUR Cup.

Josh Clack put City in front after just a few minutes, and once Kieran Hartley and Jimmy Wild added further first-half goals the issue was beyond doubt.

Chichester will be at home to Horsham YMCA in the third round.
