And the Blues defender has called on his side to play with ‘bravery’ against Cambridge United today.

Paul Cook’s side go into the clash with the U’s without a clean sheet since the start of January – a run spanning nine games.

Davies knows that has to improve.

He said: ‘It’s frustrating the way some of the goals have gone in.

‘We weren’t too sure about it being a penalty against Barnet on Tuesday. You can’t legislate for that.

‘We have to take that on the chin, though.

‘A couple of months ago we went six games without conceding at home. Now we can’t get a clean sheet.

‘But we’ve been a bit unlucky with penalties.

‘Ryan (Fulton) has been brilliant since he came so it would be a big boost to get a win and a clean sheet.’

With an undoubted air of anxiety around Pompey fans, Davies admitted an early goal today would help settle nerves.

But, more importantly, he feels his team-mates need to show fearlessness on the ball.

‘An early goal would be nice. We did that against Bristol Rovers and it settled everyone down,’ said Davies.

‘We still have to be patient.

‘The lads will make mistakes, you just have to get on the ball again.

‘At Fratton the fans have been brilliant and got behind us.

‘We got the early goal and kicked on from there.

‘We do have to give the fans something.

‘I’ve been to games myself, and sometimes you are looking for someone to give you something to cheer about and get behind.

‘We are going to be positive, go out on the front foot and give the fans something to get behind.’
